Back To Basics To Rick Perry: We’re Sorry!

Back To Basics PAC Issues Apology To Rick Perry

Political committee created controversial “Coward” ad in 2010; now says they were wrong

Austin, TX — The Back To Basics PAC issued the following public apology to Governor Rick Perry today:

Governor Perry, last year we caused quite a stir when we took out full page newspaper ads across Texas calling you a coward. We believed your stubborn refusal to debate your opponent Bill White in the 2010 gubernatorial election amounted to a shameful — and cowardly — refusal to defend your record in front of voters. Well, Governor, we’re here to tell you, we were wrong.

After your three debate performances, including last week’s Fox News debate featuring your “disqualifying”1 poor performance in which you “threw up”2 on yourself onstage, we realized it was pretty darn smart of you to skip out on public scrutiny in 2010. It turns out that “coward” was too strong a word, instead we should have praised your wise judgement for not putting this weak & bumbling side of yourself on a stage for all the world to see. You weren’t a coward for not wanting to debate, you were downright smart.

No one can be great at everything: you’ve excelled at making Texas #1 in the country or near the top in so many ways:

  • Highest percentage of adults without high school diplomas3
  • Highest percentage of uninsured children and adults4
  • Highest unemployment rate in Texas in 24 years5
  • So give yourself a pat on the back for that!

But now your poll numbers are tumbling6, you’re being rejected by your base7, and your team is lowering expectations of your fundraising ability8. Why kick a guy when he’s down? So please, accept our humble apologies.”
